As visiting is currently restricted we want to make sure people are comfortable and have access to essential items during their stay.

Family members or carers can bring in essential items to the Trust which will be taken to the clinical area by an appropriate member of staff or volunteer. The patient property drop-off point is located in the Hartshead North entrance of Tameside Hospital. Where possible, all items will be delivered on the day which they are brought in. The patient property drop off point is in Hartshead North and operates from Monday – Sunday 09.30am – 3.30pm. On public and bank holidays the service will be open but many be operating reduced hours, we would recommend contacting the service before you travel to check opening hours.

To support our staff and volunteers, who will deliver the items on your behalf, please only bring essential items, such as:

  • Clothing (for example, change of clothes and pyjamas)
  • Hygiene items (for example toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel)
  • Hearing aids, spectacles and dentures
  • Mobile phones / devices and chargers

Please do not include any valuable items or items that are perishable, including hot food. We will not be able to accept large items such as multiple bottles of juice/fizzy drink so please do not bring these with you. A member of staff or a volunteer will run through a patient property checklist to ensure that appropriate items are included. If you are bringing in medicines, please declare this so that it can be noted on the patient property form. These medications will then be reviewed separately by clinical staff when the items are taken to the ward / department.

We ask that the number of times someone comes to the hospital to drop off or collect patient property is also limited, to help reduce the number of people coming on site. This includes nominating only one relative or friend to come on to the site to bring the bag.

Please note that the availability of this service may change in line with any changes to visiting over the coming months. If you would like to find out more about the service and how it is operating please call the number above.

If you have an arranged visit, then patient property can be taken directly to the person you are visiting during your visit. Please notify ward staff that you are bringing in property and complete a patient property form as part of your visit alongside other information you will be asked to provide.
