Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust’s (TGICFT) commitment to veterans has been highlighted after it was re-awarded the Veteran Aware accreditation.
The status, first attained by the Trust in 2021, formalises the organisation’s pledge to ensure those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces are treated fairly.
This has included the introduction of a veterans’ passport, a small handbook which enables veterans to disclose information in a way that is comfortable to them and reduces the need to recall any information, which may involve re-telling and re-living traumatic memories.
The accreditation process was overseen by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), a group of NHS providers that have agreed to be exemplars of the best care for, and support to, the armed forces’ community.
Chief Executive at TGICFT, Karen James OBE, said: “I am delighted to see our work to provide veterans in Tameside, Glossop and within the wider Greater Manchester area with the very best care has been recognised with the Veteran Aware status.
“This recognises the significant amount of work which has gone in by our teams to ensure veterans are comfortable using our services, and we hope to build on this over the coming months and years.”
