Patients and visitors are advised of an upcoming road closure to allow for the safe construction of a new theatre at Tameside Hospital.
The theatre will be located next to the Maternity Unit on Hartshead Close and was given planning permission earlier this month, adding valuable operating capacity to the Trust.
To facilitate the safe and efficient construction of the new theatre, a section of Hartshead Close will be closed to vehicles between Monday 6 January until completion in Spring. This will be from the roundabout outside the Hospital’s Hartshead North entrance up to where the road runs alongside the Charlesworth building.
A signed diversion will be in place around site using Fountain Street and pedestrian access is being maintained at all times.
Buses will still serve Fountain Street bus stops, entering via Mossley Road and using the roundabout at Hartshead North as a turning point. This means the Hartshead South bus stop will not be served during this period, and the 231 bus service will not service stops on Darnton Road.
As a result of the work, a small number of disabled parking spaces are being relocated to other parts of the site and will be signposted accordingly. Access to all other car parks is unaffected.
