The families of patients receiving end of life care in Tameside and Glossop are set to receive extra support thanks to a significant donation from a national supermarket.
Morrisons Foundation have donated £4,400 to Tameside and Glossop NHS ICFT's Charity towards the cost of four 'SWAN' beds.
The beds are a vital lifeline, enabling loved ones of patients receiving end-of-life care to stay overnight at a sensitive and difficult time.
The SWAN end of life and bereavement model is about providing excellent, individualised care to every patient and their family.
Emily Burgin, Charity Manager at TGICFT, said: “As the official charity of Tameside and Glossop NHS ICFT, we support our staff, patients and their families who are receiving care from Tameside Hospital and in our community settings.
“Our hospital and community services provide care for a population of around 250,000 and are there for us all from day one of our lives and throughout.
“The purpose of the SWAN beds is to allow loved ones to stay overnight when a patient is sadly approaching the end of their life. The beds also mean families do not have to travel back and forth or book hotel rooms, at such a hard time.
“These additional beds will allow us to support more families every single day, making a difference at the time that matters most.”
Alison Cox, Community Champion at the Morrisons store in Dukinfield presented the donation to the charity, saying: “I'm very proud that we have been able to provide this grant to such a wonderful cause in our community.
“The hospital staff work tirelessly to provide vital care to patients, their families and carers and the new beds really will make a big difference to many people from across our region.
“Supporting charities at the heart of our community is what the Morrisons Foundation is all about and I’m privileged to be able to present this donation to Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity.”
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives. Since launching, over £41 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
